When using eye drops regularly more than 4 times a day for your dry eye problems, artificial tears with preservatives can cause corneal neurotoxicity. Important Eye drops tips

  • To prevent contamination of your artificial tears, don’t touch the dropper tip or allow it touch your eye or every other surface.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to applying the artificial tears.
  • Don’t use if the liquid has changed colour or is cloudy.
  • Wait at least 5 minutes between each different eye drops you put in your eyes.
  • When applying drops in your eyes, lean your head back, look upward, as well as pull down the lower eyelid and apply one to two eye drop in the pouch.
  • Look downward and lightly close your eyes for 1 to a few minutes. Put one finger in the corner of the eye close to the nose and apply gentle pressure. This could prevent the medicine from draining away from the eye.

Remember that if you’re using another type of eye medication, wait at least five minutes prior to employing other drugs.
