Restasis for Dry Eyes

Eye surface inflammation

Dry eye syndrome is characterized by ocular inflammation of the surface of the eye and the lacrimal glands, which results in a decrease in the production of tears causing ocular discomfort.

Cyclosporine to treat eye inflammation

Restasis contains cyclosporine which is applied to the eyes twice a day every 12 hours. Like artificial tears that serve only to hydrate the surface of the eye, Restasis aims to treat the underlying causes of dry eye. Restasis contains cyclosporine that acts as an immunomodulator and reduces ocular surface inflammation. Restasis is an anti-inflammatory drug without the risks represented by the use of corticosteroids. Restasis therefore aims to break the cycle of ocular inflammation known in the dry eye syndrome. Indeed, when the eye becomes irritated by dryness, inflammation appears on the surface of the eye, which can lead to a reduction in the quantity / quality of the tears causing the possibility of the surface of the eye being damaged and the vicious circle is triggered. It is for this reason that according to the manufacturer, it is the ocular inflammation that must be treated to break this cycle. Artificial tears can provide temporary relief but do not treat eye inflammation that is often present in a dry eye.

Reduce eye inflammation with cyclosporine

Restasis can therefore help reduce inflammation and help you naturally produce more healthy tears and get better eye comfort. However, it is about 8 to 12 weeks before the benefits of the drug are felt.
Restasis ophthalmic drops are presented in single-dose format, therefore without preservatives. You must therefore ensure that the vial does not come in contact with your eye or any other surface so you do not contaminate the product. Also, if you use artificial tears, wait about 15 minutes after using Restasis to put other drops in your eyes.
As Restasis is a prescription medication, do not hesitate to consult your doctor as he alone is qualified to treat your dry eyes.
